Zunächst stand die Malerei im Mittelpunkt des Wirkens der Künstlerin Christine Dumbsky. Wobei Ihre Gemälde oft als „Erotic Art“ kategorisiert werden, obwohl sich ihre Bilderwelten bei genauerer Betrachtung wohl eher mit dem Thema „Frau“ auseinander setzen.
Die Arbeit mit der 'lebenden Leinwand" kam erst einige Jahre später dazu, dennoch eine beinahe zwangsläufige Entwicklung. Die Idee, den Betrachter, Kunstschaffenden und das Modell komplett in den Entstehungsprozess zu integrieren, war imaginär schon seit langem für die Künstlerin eines ihrer gesetzten Ziele. Mit Hilfe der Körpermalerei war es erstmals möglich dies nun konsequent zu realisieren.
Zunächst bemalte sich die Künstlerin selbst, um sich mit "Haut und Haaren" mit ihrem Werk zu identifizieren. Eine "schweinische Auftragsarbeit" mit Schweineskulpturen für einen Stadtevent gab den ersten Impuls dazu. Später verselbständigte sich diese Grundidee und entwickelte sich zu einer eigenständigen und neuen Richtung. Das Modell, das ja ursprünglich "nur" als lebende Projektionsfläche diente, wurde Teil eines Gesamtkunstwerkes und war nun selbst völlig verschmolzen mit dem Gemälde, welches thematisch oft als Grundlage diente.

Bodypainting – Körperbemalung – so alt wie die Menschheit selbst
Ob im alten Ägypten, bei den Mayas, Aborigines, Indianern, Afrikaner oder Indianern, die Körperbemalung hat rund um den Globus durch alle Kulturen und Gesellschaftsschichten seit je her eine große Bedeutung.
Seit Urzeiten, bemalten sich die Menschen aus den unterschiedlichsten Gründen. Zum Schmuck und zur Verschönerung, zum Schutz vor bösen Geistern und Zauberei, zu rituellen Handlungen, als Schutz vor Insektenbefall , sowie auch für medizinische und hygienische Zwecke, als Kriegsbemalung oder zur Tarnung, um nur einige Beispiele zu nennen.
Vormals nutzten die Menschen natürliche Pigmente aus farbigen Gestein und Erde, die sie mit Wasser, tierischen Fetten oder Ölen aus Pflanzen zu Farbbreien vermischten und mit Fingern, Stöcken oder mit Tierhaaren auf die Haut auftrugen.
In der Gegenwart hat sich die Zusammensetzung der Körperfarben und Malhilfsmittel wesentlich weiterentwickelt und verfeinert. Durch neue technische Entwicklungen im Hinblick auf Malgeräte, wie z. B. den Einsatz von Airbrushsystemen, Fineliner, Farbstiften für die Haut etc. , sowie und neue chemische Erkenntnisse zur Farbenherstellung und Zusammensetzung. Aber auch weiterhin werden immer noch Farben aus natürlichen Rohstoffen eingesetzt.
Bis heute benutzt der Mensch Körperfarben. Sei es als dekoratives Mittel durch permanente Veränderung wie z. B. mit einem Tattoo, permanent MakeUP oder als wiederentfernbares Mittel wie Schminke, Nagellack, Farbspray
Die bekannteste künstlerische Anwendungsform ist das Bodypainting/Special MakeUp. Aus der langen Geschichte der Bemalung der Haut hat sich Bodypainting bis heute zur eigenständigen Kunstform entwickelt.
Die Faszination, dass sich der Mensch zum schönen oder hässlichen verändern und verwandeln kann, buchstäblich in eine „andere Haut“ schlüpfen kann, durch die Bemalung mit Farbe, hat und wird wahrscheinlich immer eine große Bedeutung haben und behalten.

At first painting was the center of work of the artist Christine Dumbsky. Whereby her paintings are often categorized as “Erotic Art”, although a closer look below the surface of her picture worlds rather reveal a more differentiated topic “the woman”.
The work with the “living canvas“ was added some years later, nevertheless an almost inevitable development. The idea to integrate the viewer, the art-creative and the model completely into the developing process was imaginary already for a long time for the artist and one of her set goals. With the help of the bodypainting it could be realized for the first time.
First the artist painted herself, in order to identify herself with “skin and hair” with her own work, to become a real part of the art. An order of pig sculptures for a city event gave the first impulse in addition. Later this philosophy became somehow independent and developed furhter to a new direction. The model, which originally served “only” as a living canvas, became part of a synthesis of the arts and was now even completely merged with the painting, which thematically often served as basis.

Bodypainting – painting on skin - as old as mankind
Whether in old Egypt, with the Mayas, Aborigines, Indians, African or Indians, the body painting had and still got a big importance around the globe by all cultures and social classes since ever.
Since primeval times, humans painted themselves for the most different reasons. For decoration and for adornment, for protection from bad spirit and magic, for ritual actions, also as for protection from insect attack, as well as for medical and hygenic purposes, as war painting or for camouflage, in order to tell only some examples.
In former times humans used natural pigments from colored rock and earth, which they mixed with water, animal fats or oils from plants to create color mashes to be applied with fingers, sticks or with animal hair onto the skin.
In the present the composition of the bodycolors, painting aids as well accessories developed further substantially and were much refined. By new technical developments regarding painting devices, like e.g. the employment of airbrush systems, fineliners, coloured pencils for the skin etc., as well as and new chemical realizations for the color production and composition.
In addition, colors from natural raw materials are still used.
Until today humans use body colors. Also for decorative means for a permanent change such as e.g. with a Tattoo, permanent make-up or as a removable product such as make-up, Nagellack, color spray.
The most well-known artistic application form is the Bodypainting/Special make-up. From the long history of painting the painting on skin until today developed to an independent art form.
The fascination that one can change and transform to the beautiful or ugly, literally slip into an „other skin “ only by being painted with color, has and probably will always keep great importance.
